Publication summary
SEDRIC's first working group [Antimicrobial Resistance & Data] conducted a survey to identify barriers to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of antimicrobial resistance in LMICs. Responses highlighted three research areas in need of funding: infection prevention and control measures designed to meet the need in LMICs, improved electronic patient records, starting with laboratory information management systems, and sustainable behaviour change among doctors and other health care professionals with a focus on diagnostic stewardship.
Who this is for
- Researchers
- Policy makers
- AMR surveillance and epidemiology specialists
Key findings
- Most clinicians in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) lack local antimicrobial susceptibility data.
- Clinicians in LMICs do not feel confident to treat drug-resistant infections.
- Current guidance for infection prevention and control is not well adapted to low resource settings
